While we were on our vacation, we happened upon quite a few abandoned places. There is so much beauty and character in old things, but I especially love the feeling you get when you find something that has been abandoned. It used to have a story, a reason for existence, and now it is just an empty shell, a clue of what once was there. When I find an abandoned place, I like to imagine what it was like in it’s prime, with a fresh coat of paint and people bustling about. I always get a thrill when I find such gems as these, full of rust, crackling paint, and interesting textures.
Abandoned things always remind me that there is sometimes beauty in things that are just a little bit ugly.
This first group of photos is from an old abandoned resort that we stumbled upon. It closed down like 15 years ago, and was just left to go into ruins. All the doors were wide open for some reason, so we took a peak. It was really creepy…
Chairs that once made up an elegant dining room, now left in disarray, and empty.
Ceilings crumbling and leaving the texture of rubble on the floor.
Fancy wine glasses juxtaposed with dirt and rubble.
A once busy and efficient kitchen, now in ruins, while the dishes still stand in piles. Such a waste of dishes, right?
An elegant piano with gorgeous chandeliers on the wall, while a chair lays on its side.
What kind of fun dining and music happened in this room 20 years ago? I wish I could go back in time…
A mysterious envelope on a table…
A chair oh so lonely with no one to sit upon it. Such funky colors in this room!
I wonder who used to use this old rotary phone.
A pool, drained of water and neglected.
What once was a beautiful lobby, now in shambles, with stuff just everywhere.
I mean everywhere!
A creepy photo, and an old room key. Feeling a little spooked?
I love this old torn up basketball hoop on the grounds. It was well used in its day!
A creepy lonely chair covered in chains. I don’t know what was going on here…Or why there were so many chairs in this place!
An old roller skating rink on the grounds…I think some people before us didn’t use the door!
Complete with skates!
I guess it’s closed… It’s cool to think that this little sign is probably 20 years old!
This barn was on the property of the bed and breakfast we stayed at during the end of our trip. I loved the textures and broken windows.
This gorgeous construction was over an old abandoned railroad track.
Another great gem was this abandoned factory that we found. So many rich colors and textures! We drove by it on our way to something, and back-tracked later to take some pictures.
Oh man I love love love these colors and textures! Aghhh! This place made me so happy!
Old rusted pipes, shining in sunbeams.
A delicious old crane…yes I just called rusted metal delicious. Oh well, I’m an artist. Teehe
I’m loving the falling-apart curtain in this one.
And last but not least, this is a little antique shop that we found on the side of the road. Empty and deserted, with no antiques. I kind of think the sign is an antique though.
So that’s my collection of abandoned deserted places, found during our vacation! I hope you guys enjoyed it! We really enjoy adventures, and discovering places like these always makes for a great adventure!
